Gray Plant Mooty Names Sarah Duniway and Charlie Maier Managing Officers

November 06, 2014 | News Release

Firm veterans to move into new shared role on April 1, 2015

MINNEAPOLIS, Minn. (November 6, 2014) – Gray Plant Mooty announced today that Sarah Duniway and Charlie Maier will become Managing Officers of the venerable law firm on April 1, 2015.

Together they will manage approximately 170 lawyers in 11 practice groups spanning Gray Plant Mooty offices in Minneapolis, Washington, DC, and St. Cloud, Minn. Current Executive Committee members Dave Bahls and Bruce Mooty – in what has become a common tradition for their predecessors – will remain visible and in active practice at the firm.

"By virtue of their experience, insight, and values, Sarah and Charlie have distinguished themselves as lawyers and leaders in our firm," said Bahls. "They understand the importance of mastering their work while building relationships with clients, colleagues, and the community alike. The firm is in great hands.”

The shared Managing Officer role reinforces the importance Gray Plant Mooty places on collaboration while enabling Maier and Duniway to maintain their client relationships.

Duniway co-chairs Gray Plant Mooty’s nonprofit and tax-exempt organizations practice team, which advises clients on governance, tax-exemption, and business operations. She also helps guide the firm’s healthcare clients through issues including mergers and acquisitions, compliance, and financing.

A graduate of the University of Minnesota Law School, Duniway clerked for Minnesota Supreme Court Justice Sandra Gardebring from 1996-1997. She is a trustee for the Gray Plant Mooty Foundation, serves on the Board of Directors for Gray Plant Mooty, and is active in a number of philanthropic, neighborhood, community, and political organizations.

Maier co-chairs Gray Plant Mooty's litigation group, where he represents private and public companies in disputes involving stock and asset sales, mergers, governance, and claims of breach of fiduciary duty, as well as other complex business matters. He has tried cases in state and federal courts, is a three-time "Minnesota Super Lawyer" and is a Fellow of the Litigation Counsel of America.

A graduate of the University of Wisconsin and the University of Michigan Law School, Maier is an active youth coach and serves as a trustee of Woodbury Peaceful Grove United Methodist Church.
