MINNEAPOLIS, MN (October 25, 2011) — The Minneapolis-based law firm of Gray Plant Mooty is pleased to announce that Matthew Shea, a principal with the firm’s Trust, Estate & Charitable Planning practice group, has been elected as a fellow to the American College of Trust and Estate Counsel (ACTEC).
ACTEC is a national organization of approximately 2,600 lawyers elected to membership by demonstrating the highest level of integrity, commitment to the profession, competence, and experience as trust and estate counselors. Membership in ACTEC is by election of the college’s regents. Individual lawyers meeting the criteria for membership are nominated for membership by college fellows and subjected to careful review by both state and national membership selection committees, prior to consideration by the regents of the college. Applications for membership by members of the bar are not accepted by the college.
Shea practices in the areas of estate planning, business succession planning, estate and trust administration, and international estate and tax planning. He works with executives, business owners, dentists, and physicians to address their unique estate planning issues. Shea assists clients in achieving their estate planning goals and guides families through the estate settlement and administration process after they have lost a loved one. Super Lawyers has named Shea a “Rising Star” five times. In addition, Shea is an adjunct law professor at the University of St. Thomas Law School, where he teaches courses on Wills, Estates and Trusts, and Estate Planning and Taxation of Gifts. Shea received his J.D., cum laude, from the William Mitchell College of Law.
