Gray Plant Mooty provides numerous training programs for its attorneys, including summer associates.
Gray Plant Mooty’s training for summer associates is designed to help make the transition from law student to law firm associate as smooth as possible. This includes instruction on how to effectively use firm resources, such as legal research and technology, tips on working with legal administrative staff, and how to get involved with pro bono projects during your summer with us. Summer associates receive an overview of each of our administrative departments to get a feel for the business side of the law. During weekly breakfast meetings, summer associates get together with practice group chairs to talk about the firm’s practice areas.
Gray Plant Mooty conducts a program on legal writing for all summer associates. This workshop provides summer associates with practical advice on how to write effectively and avoid the many pitfalls too commonly found in legal writing.
Every year, Gray Plant Mooty provides comprehensive litigation training for its associates involved in litigation practice areas. In addition to presentations from experienced attorneys, associates participate in an intensive trial training program that gives associates the opportunity to take mock depositions, conduct mock oral arguments, and participate in a mock jury trial to hone their advocacy skills. Senior litigation associates may also attend intensive National Institute for Trial Advocacy training sessions.
Gray Plant Mooty regularly conducts firmwide training on a variety of business and transactional legal topics. This training is conducted by an experienced principal with the firm, other firm staff, or an outside presenter.
In addition to providing internal training, Gray Plant Mooty pays the tuition for associates to attend continuing legal education courses.
Gray Plant Mooty provides quarterly business development training for associates and new principals to help them develop the skills necessary to attract and maintain new clients. This training covers topics such as client meeting preparation, making the most of a client event, and leveraging social media. Summer associates are encouraged to attend these training sessions during their summer with the firm.
Gray Plant Mooty’s library staff conducts training on a multitude of legal research topics, including the most up-to-date electronic resources as well as cost-effective research. Representatives from major legal research companies regularly visit Gray Plant Mooty offices to provide legal research advice as well as in-depth training on software applications.
Every law firm knows the importance of accounting for attorney time. Gray Plant Mooty offers training to summer associates, new associates, and all attorneys on best practices for time capturing and time reporting. Gray Plant Mooty utilizes the latest timekeeping and accounting software to assist attorneys in this process.
