On an ongoing basis, Gray Plant Mooty attorneys provide pro bono counsel to numerous organizations and individuals in need of legal services. Each year, several of the firm’s attorneys are recognized as North Star Lawyers for providing at least 50 hours of pro bono legal services to low-income people during the year.
For 2018, 39 Gray Plant Mooty attorneys were recognized by the Minnesota State Bar Association for their pro bono legal services during the calendar year. Combined, this year the firm's North Star Lawyers contributed a total of 4,216 hours of pro bono service. The leading GPM honorees, based on time commitment, were Daniel Shulman and Thomas Johnson.

On June 1, 2016, The Advocates for Human Rights presented GPM’s asylum team with a 2016 Volunteer Award at its Human Rights Awards Dinner.
