GPM Sponsors Firmwide Read in Coordination with One Minneapolis, One Read

One Minneapolis One Read is the city’s community read where everyone is invited to read the same book and join in a community conversation. GPM attorneys and staff did just that, reading “A Choice of Weapons,” the autobiography by acclaimed photographer, composer, artist, writer, and filmmaker Gordon Parks. The book traces Parks’ story from the age of 16, when he left Kansas after the death of his mother, and moved to St. Paul, Minnesota. He worked as a musician, a porter, a basketball player, and he taught himself photography with a secondhand camera. His “weapons” included faith and optimism in the face of poverty, bigotry, and overt racism, as well as mentors who guided him along the way, a voracious appetite for learning, and a fearless belief in himself.
