
Tim is a principal at Gray Plant Mooty (GPM) and a member of the firm’s health law team. His practice includes the general representation of health care organizations including hospitals, single- and multi-specialty physician groups, ancillary service providers, and other health care providers and suppliers.
Tim has significant experience in state and federal regulation, including licensure standards, physician recruitment and retention requirements, Medicare and Medicaid fraud and abuse laws; HIPAA privacy requirement, nonprofit corporation law; health system governance, and other general corporate matters. Tim also frequently counsels health care providers on their merger, acquisition, joint venture, and affiliation strategies. Clients have found Tim’s accounting background invaluable in structuring arrangements that are successful from both a legal and a business perspective.
Tim is a Certified Public Accountant and prior to becoming an attorney, Tim was director of corporate finance for a major health care provider in the Chicago metropolitan area. He also taught Health Law and Nonprofit Law at IIT Kent College of Law in Chicago, Illinois and Saint Mary’s University in Minneapolis, Minnesota.
Experience
- Counsels health care providers on both federal and state fraud and abuse laws including the federal Anti-kickback Statute and the Stark law
- Assist providers in responding to requests for information from regulators on regulatory issues
- Regularly represents both buyer and sellers on successful completion of their acquisitions or divestitures
- Provides assistance in developing and structuring joint venture arrangements that both meets the parties’ objectives and complies with the myriad of state and federal laws
- Provides ongoing counsel and advice
