MINNEAPOLIS, Minn.  (January 12, 2012) — The Minneapolis law firm of Gray Plant Mooty is pleased to announce that Bruce Mooty has been appointed chairperson of the firm’s board of directors. In the position, Mooty will work closely with David Bahls, Gray Plant Mooty’s managing officer.

“Bruce and I have really enjoyed working together on firm and client matters for many years, so I am thrilled he has rejoined our firm leadership team,” said Bahls. “Bruce’s strategic and creative thinking, as well as his deep caring for the firm and its employees, will serve the firm exceedingly well in his expanded role.”

Mooty is a business lawyer representing and counseling public and private companies in mergers and acquisitions and other key business decisions. He has received numerous legal awards and has been practicing with Gray Plant Mooty since 1994. From 2000 to 2007, he served as the firm's managing officer and board chair. Prior to joining Gray Plant Mooty, Mooty was a shareholder and board member at another large Minneapolis law firm.

Outside of his legal practice, Mooty is involved with numerous community and nonprofit activities and is a passionate advocate for the University of Minnesota, from which he received both his undergraduate and law degrees. Mooty has served the U of M in numerous volunteer and leadership capacities, including as national president of the University of Minnesota Alumni Association and as a member of the search committee that ultimately recommended the hiring of Eric Kaler, the University of Minnesota’s new president. In 2010, Mooty was honored by the University of Minnesota Alumni Association with its prestigious Alumni Service Award.

Mooty is an Edina resident. He and his wife, Tracy, have three adult daughters.
