Phil is a principal at the law firm of Gray Plant Mooty in St. Cloud and Minneapolis. He concentrates his practice in agricultural and agribusiness financing, commercial financing and bankruptcy. Phil is also a member of the firm's board of directors. He is the past chair of the Agricultural and Agri-Business Financing Subcommittee of the ABA Business Law Section. He is also a member of the ABA Business Law Section’s Business Bankruptcy, Commercial Financial Services and Uniform Commercial Code committees. He is currently the chair of the Minnesota State Bar Association Business Law Section and has previously served as chair of the MSBA Bankruptcy Section.

Phil is a Fellow of the American College of Bankruptcy and has been recognized continuously since 1997 in The Best Lawyers in America. He has also been recognized by his peers as one of Minnesota’s “Super Lawyers." He is a frequent CLE lecturer on agricultural and commercial financing, workout and bankruptcy topics.

He graduated from St. John’s University, Collegeville, Minnesota, in 1974. He obtained his J.D. degree, cum laude, from the University of Minnesota Law School in 1977. He was admitted to practice in the 8th Circuit Court of Appeals and the United States Supreme Court in 1985.


EXPERIENCE

  • Represented administrative agent in syndicated revolving credit facility for multi-state integrated agricultural producer.
  • Represented administrative agent in syndicated financing for agricultural processing facility.
  • Served as bankruptcy trustee or represented trustees in agricultural fraud cases in Minnesota and Missouri.
  • Represents senior lenders in alternative energy financings in multiple states.
