Bruce W. Mooty Named President of the U of M Alumni Association
Gray Plant Mooty is pleased to announce that Bruce W. Mooty has been named national volunteer president of the 60,000-member University of Minnesota Alumni Association.
Mooty joined the Alumni Association Board in 2002 and the Executive Committee one year later. In addition, he chaired the Advocacy Committee for three years and served as co-chair for a fourth year. As a member of the Alumni Association Board, Mooty assisted with many critical issues addressed by the Association including strategic planning, brand identity development, support of the TCF Bank stadium, improvement of the Regents selection process, and establishment of a memorandum of understanding between the Alumni Association and the University. He has also chaired the Minnesota State Bar Association Business Law Institute and the U of M Law School Board of Visitors.
Mooty, his family, and Gray Plant Mooty have a long history of leadership in, and support of, the Alumni Association. Members of Mooty’s extended family have a total of 27 degrees from the University of Minnesota and four members of the family have served as president of the Alumni Association. Mooty is also one of four Gray Plant Mooty attorneys—including Frank Gray, John Mooty, and Bob Stein—to serve as Alumni Association president.
"My family and I have benefited immeasurably by attending the University of Minnesota and the University of Minnesota Law School,” says Mooty, “and I am honored to have the opportunity to give back to our cherished University as an ambassador for the Alumni Association."
Mooty is a principal at Gray Plant Mooty where he practices in the areas of Business Law Transactions, M&A, Complex Investigations, and Franchise & Distribution. He is also a former managing officer and chairman of the board for GPM. Mooty earned his B.A. summa cum laude from the University of Minnesota and his J.D. with honors from the University of Minnesota Law School. His term as 2008-09 president of the University of Minnesota Alumni Association began on July 1, 2008.
