The Hennepin County Bar Association’s Diversity Committee has recognized Gray Plant Mooty with the 2008 Diversity Award for a Legal Employer.
The award is given to a legal employer who displays an outstanding commitment to diversity in the legal profession, and is open to all legal employers in Minnesota—including private firms, government legal employers, and any other private or public organization that employs attorneys—who have shown a commitment to increasing diversity in the legal profession.
Selection for the Diversity Award is based upon the following criteria:
- The long-term commitment of the legal employer to recruiting minority law students;
- The legal employer’s retention of minority attorneys;
- Mentoring programs established by the legal employer for minority attorneys;
- Promotion of minority employees;
- The legal employer’s commitment to addressing issues of equality, fairness, and injustice in the legal profession based on race, gender, nationality ethnicity, sexual orientation, gender identity, disability or age, and/or individuals who have been historically underrepresented in the legal profession.
The HCBA’s Awards Committee took note of GPM’s commitment to attracting, recruiting, and retaining a highly qualified and richly diverse workforce, which is directed by four primary principles: respect, belonging, support, and generosity. GPM’s principles drive initiatives such as a carefully designed summer associate program, extensive and varied workforce training (including the workplace theater production, Your Face Here), and the co-sponsorship of numerous legal community and civic programs focused on diversity.
The award was presented to Gray Plant Mooty at the Hennepin County Bar Association’s 89th Annual Meeting held May 22, 2008.
