Presented by: Gray Plant Mooty’s Agribusiness & Food Practice Team
Please join us for our agribusiness roundtable and webinar series on immigration. Immigrant workers are critical to production agriculture and agribusinesses, providing necessary skills and labor. Immigration reform is likely to be at the forefront of the congressional agenda in 2013. The United States Supreme Court decision striking down a portion of the Arizona immigration law this past year only intensified the scrutiny likely to be applied to state initiatives. This roundtable will address fundamental immigration issues, including compliance with the current regime. It will also address federal and state responses to the current legal framework in light of recent political developments.
Our panels members include, Allie Devine who has proposed an immigration framework that allows agribusiness employers to sponsor immigrant workers and permits immigrant workers to continue their employment in the agricultural sector. Her work has been cited in the national media as a creative alternative and has been supported by diverse groups including state and national livestock associations, business groups and various religious institutions that see the value in immigration reform working in conjunction with agriculture. Craig Raysor is an attorney with JBS Swift, representing JBS Swift in various immigration issues related to their beef and swine operations. Craig has an advanced degree in agricultural law and formerly worked as an attorney for GIPSA. Casey Nolan is a shareholder with Gray Plant Mooty specializing in immigration and employment issues.
