Business Development Manager

Gray Plant Mooty, a prominent national law firm, is currently seeking a Business Development Manager.  This position is responsible for providing support to practice groups and individuals on client development and business development initiatives, including practice group marketing plans, request for proposals (RFPs), events and sponsorships.   This individual will manage all aspects of business development and marketing for select practice groups and teams, including strategic practice planning, marketing planning, cross-practice marketing, business development sponsorships, and events.  This position will identify and implement new business development initiatives to grow existing client relationships and foster new business.

In addition, the manager will facilitate and coordinate RFP responses and act as primary contact for the firm’s RFP process and develop tactics for targeting specific clients or industry groups.  This includes drafting of collateral and creation of customized pitches and proposals and PowerPoint presentations when necessary.  The manager is also responsible for advising attorneys on presentation development, including outlining the presentation approach, conducting research, role playing and other advice.

Qualifications include strong management and interpersonal skills; ability to develop effective working relationships with all levels of personnel; strong client-service orientation and focus; excellent communications skills; creative problem solving skills; and exceptional project management skills.  The ideal candidate will be highly self-motivated and directed and will have 8+ years of business development and marketing experience with a professional services firm, sales experience a plus.  Five+ year’s management experience, including delegation, evaluation and development of staff and a bachelor’s degree in marketing, communications or related field.

Trademark Docketing/Administrative Assistant

Gray Plant Mooty, a prominent national law firm, currently has an entry level Trademark Docketing /Administrative Assistant opportunity available in our Minneapolis office.  This position will provide administrative docketing support to the Trademark attorneys and paralegals by providing administrative assistance to the Trademark team and by mastering all aspects of trademark docketing for U.S. and international trademark portfolios.

The docketing assistant responsibilities will include general administrative assistance, preparing docket and status reports, interacting with the USPTO as well as foreign and international intellectual property entities and working with the attorneys and paralegals regarding trademark portfolios. Additionally, the assistant will review and access correspondence from U.S. and international trademark offices, attorneys and paralegals, and extract all relevant and pertinent data and deadlines for input into database.   Accurately and promptly input detailed information relating to trademark applications, registrations, and renewals, including status updates and filing details throughout the trademark application, registration, renewal and enforcement process. Other responsibilities will include preparing docket and status reports, interacting with the USPTO as well as foreign and international intellectual property entities and working with the attorneys and paralegals regarding trademark portfolios.

Successful candidates will have a tenacious attitude towards ensuring data accuracy, with strong attention to detail. The position requires someone who has strong follow through and organizational skills. Other skills required for this position are the ability to organize and prioritize numerous tasks and complete them under time constraints.   Post-secondary education and some docketing experience preferred. Proficiency in the Microsoft Office Suite is required.

Practice Development Specialist

Gray Plant Mooty, a prominent national law firm, currently has a Practice Development Specialist opportunity available in our Minneapolis office.  This position supports the Chief Business Development Officer (CBDO) and Business Development Managers in a wide range of business development initiatives and external profile raising activities. The PDS will collaborate with the business development and marketing team, practice group leaders, and attorneys to assist with marketing and client development strategies that focus on marketing, business development, public relations, knowledge management and logistical support.  The PDS will act in an administrative function assisting managers with practice group development. 

The specialist’s responsibilities will include coordinating and preparing pitches and proposals, responses to RFP’s, client presentations and other deliverables.  The PDS will work with the communications team, coordinating and assisting in the preparation of legal ranking submissions, tracking the submissions and assist with client alert mailings.  In addition, the specialist will assist with managing annual practice group budgets and marketing plans; help identify, and assess sponsorships and speaking engagements, etc; and assist in conducting research and gathering information to support business development and marketing initiatives. 

As a Practice Development Specialist, you will be expected to apply your organizational and communication skills while displaying a positive, high-energy attitude.  Must have knowledge of core business development principals including RFP response preparation; presentation development, business development training, leadership skills, well developed and professional interpersonal skills; ability to interact effectively with people at all organizational levels of the firm; ability to work in a team environment with a client service focus.  Ability to handle projects independently, prioritize workload and solve problems quickly.  Bachelor’s degree in Marketing, Communications or related field required. Exceptional project management and organizational skills; strong technical skills and familiarity with CRM systems and databases required.
